| Julie A. Trent is a partner with the firm.Ms. Trent practices in all areas of general commercial litigation, representing many types of businesses and financial institutions in a wide range of cases. She has represented clients in actions as diverse as overtime disputes under the Fair Labor Standards Act, trademark disputes under the Lanham Act, bankruptcy adversary proceedings, and general contract disputes. She represents employers in a variety of employment matters, including the defense of age, race, national origin and sex discrimination, unemployment compensation, and wage claims. She also has represented employees with respect to non-competition agreements, severance agreements and other business matters. Her practice includes the representation of clients in federal and state courts, arbitration proceedings and mediation.
Ms. Trent successfully defended a breach of warranty/breach of contract claim in a highly technical arbitration in which the claimant, represented by a national law firm, sought $34 million in damages. Ms. Trent worked closely with numerous experts to gain command of the technical aspects of the dispute. After discovery and several substantive pre-arbitration hearings, the claimant agreed to a walk-away settlement. In addition, Ms. Trent has been successful in obtaining the dismissal of various federal and state law claims, including ERISA and outrageous conduct claims, in the early stages of litigation on behalf of numerous clients. Ms. Trent has received Martindale Hubbell’s highest rating of AV, has served as a contributing editor to the Wiley Bankruptcy Law Update, Aspen Law & Business, and has spoken at national and regional forums on numerous issues. Ms. Trent is a graduate of the J. Reuben Clark Law School, where she received the Order of the Barrister academic distinction. She was a member of the Moot Court Board of Advocates, served as a Moot Court Director, and received the Faculty Award for Promotion of Oral Advocacy. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University. |
